Solent LGBT+ staff network

Who are we?Diversity-Champion-Logo-(Black-text)

We are a small, friendly group that provides a supportive and social network for anyone working at Solent University who identifies as lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, non-binary or who is questioning their sexuality or gender identity.

What do we do?

We assist and support LGBT+ staff by providing information, guidance and advice. We also:

  • contribute to policy development and implementation at the University
  • provide advice and support to any member of University staff (regardless of sexuality) looking to improve their understanding of issues around sexuality and gender identity or who wants to better support LGBT+ students or colleagues
  • provide a channel for discussing diversity issues at work and raising issues in a safe environment
  • provide networking opportunities
  • arrange events to raise awareness of LGBT+ issues and to celebrate diversity
  • contribute to staff development activities

We have regular meetings throughout the year for network members and our awareness raising events are open to the Solent staff and student community as a whole.

Who can be a member of the LGBT+ Network?

The LGBT+ Staff Network welcomes all staff who work at Solent University, including those who work for our business partners such as Sodexo or Noonan. If you are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or binary/gender non-conforming, the Staff Network is an inclusive space for all. Just drop us an email and we will add you to our mailing list

I do not identify as LGBT+ how can I best support your work?

You can help us by becoming an LGBT+ ally. Just drop us an email and ask about our allies group.

Stonewall has produced guidance on how allies can support LGBT+ equality at work:

Straight allies: how they help create gay-friendly workplaces
