Course costs support grant

Photography course

The Course Cost Support Grant is means tested and available to support students whose courses have compulsory course costs or Final Major Projects (not general costs such as books, stationery, etc).  

'Compulsory course cost' information is available on the university website under your course details. 

Examples of compulsory costs are: 

  • Course specific equipment e.g. make-up/hair kit; photography equipment; specialist software; uniforms/sports kit etc. 

  • Course trips e.g. gallery, theatre and field trips within the UK and EU. 

  • Professional memberships/body endorsements and related exam fees (e.g. NCTJ / REPs). 

  • Final Major Projects (FMP) and dissertation costs for final year students .

The grant can only provide a contribution to your costs; it cannot cover 100% of them. 

Who can apply?

  • Full-time and part-time UK home students (U/G and P/G) (in receipt of their maximum maintenance loan/postgraduate loan). 
  • EU / International students cannot apply
  • Previous years compulsory course costs will not be considered. 

To apply you must

  • Have received the FIRST instalment of your maintenance loan/postgraduate loan
  • Complete the course costs support grant application form 
  • See a student funding adviser in the student hub (RM050) with your completed application form.
  • Provide evidence of your UK funding entitlement for 2019/20 - which must show your maximum entitlement of maintenance loan.  Student finance documents should show your name and customer reference number.
  • Please provide photocopies of all evidence, as originals will not be returned.

Applications will ONLY be accepted from:

  • Monday 23 September 2019 to Friday 26 June 2020 by 3pm or until funds are exhausted.
  • A decision should be made within 2 – 3 working weeks of submission. 
  • You will receive an email to your university email, notifying you of the result of your application. 
  • The award for successful applications will be paid directly into your bank account.
