Advice for staff supporting students

The student funding team at Solent University offer confidential financial information, advice and guidance to students.

We can also offer guidance to staff at the university in their work with students. Any member of staff can refer a student to the student funding team (in The Student Hub, RM050) to discuss any aspect of student funding.

It is essential that students are aware of how repeating, suspending or withdrawing from a course affects their student funding.

In addition to supporting students the team also administers the University's support grantcourse costs support grant, unpaid placement support grant, carers' bursary and estranged students' bursary (all non-repayable grants) which eligible students should be encouraged to apply to if they are experiencing financial difficulties.

We have leaflets covering many aspects of student funding. You are welcome to print them out to give to your students.

Please note, students studying an apprenticeship course are NOT eligible for an SLC loan (maintenance loan) for living costs and therefore should check their course page on the university’s website for more information on how they fund their studies https://www.solent.ac.uk/courses/info/higher-degree-apprenticeships

More information and contact details for the Student Funding Team are on the funding advice pages on the University's external website.

The student funding team is based in The Student Hub, (RM050), near the shop.
