We welcome you all to the Creative and Digital Industries Hub page, here you will find information about upcoming events and research seminars promoted by the Hub. We would like to also encourage all of you if you wish to propose new events and deliver sessions for the hub. 

Solent has a strong record of research and innovation in the creative industries. The Creative and Digital industries Hub is a focus for excellence in the fields of visual art, visual design, cultural memory, interactive media, fashion, screen media, creativity and communications. 

The Hub forms part of a network that facilitates the cross-pollination of ideas and approaches, naturally cultivating an atmosphere of openness to multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research, collaboration and transparency. Aligned to the School of Art, Design and Fashion, the School of Media Arts and Technology and the School of Communications and Marketing, the Creative and Digital Industries Hub is virtually open to all Solent staff members, who are eager to contribute to the university’s research environment, and pursue research – or practice related research in the broad field of creative and digital industries. 

The Hub is an over-arching framework that encompasses research areas being collectively or independently investigated, as well as new ones that might arise as result of future collaborations. Within many research groups active at Solent, it has been manifest a cross-disciplinary and trans-media approach to visual culture, social, political and technological issues. Identity performance and bodily representations, gender identities, the impact of digital technologies and new media, cultural memory and collective narratives, experimentations within various fields of art, fashion and design, are just some of the areas being investigated by the many research groups and collectives operating at Solent. The interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary nature of the Hub in Creative and Digital Industries reflects therefore the experience and work many staff members and research groups working at the intersection of different disciplines and themes. 

As a supportive and overarching framework, the Hub aims to encourage research, practice related research and innovation, and integrates the Researcher Development Programme by focussing, in particular, on opportunities, sources and need relevant for researchers within the creative and digital industries.
