SCONUL Access scheme

Mountbatten Library is a member of the SCONUL Access scheme.  This is a reciprocal scheme which allows many university library users to either borrow or use books and journals at other libraries which belong to the scheme.

Who can apply for SCONUL access membership?

  • Students currently studying at Southampton solent University

  • Staff members currently employed by Southampton Solent University

Can I borrow books from another library?

You can apply to borrow books from another library if you are:

  • A member of University staff

  • A research student

  • A part-time, distance learning or placement student

  • A taught postgraduate student.

Undergraduate students can apply for reference access to other libraries (studying and using printed materials there but not borrowing them).

How do I apply?

To apply for SCONUL Access please visit the SCONUL Access website. If your application is successful you will receive an approval email (usually within 2 or 3 working days).

How do I access other libraries once I have joined the scheme?

Before visiting another library for the first time you should check their website or contact them for any local conditions they may have. You will need to have your approval email and university campus card with you. Some libraries may also ask for a passport sized photograph and many will have specific hours for your first visit.

Can I get access to online resources?

SCONUL Access members cannot access another library's electronic resources or use their IT facilities.
