Subscription services for individuals

Members of the public may apply to use the Southampton Solent University Library (the Mountbatten Library) as a borrower. An annual fee of £ VAT (total £30) is charged for a twelve month subscription from the date of application.

Members of the Alumni Association may enjoy library privileges at a concessionary subscription rate (50 per cent off external subscribers rate per annum).

Subscribers are required to show proof of name and address (eg driving licence). They are then issued with a card. Applications will only be processed during the following hours: 

  • 9am - 5pm Monday - Friday (excluding bank holidays)
  • 10am - 5pm Saturday & Sunday (term-time only) 

Subscribers are offered a book loans service (maximum of 4 concurrent items). All loans are at the discretion of the librarian. Borrowers are responsible for all loans issued to them and will be charged the replacement cost for any lost or non-returned items.

Please note, the following services are not available for subscribers or visitors:

  • Inter-library loans.
  • Reservations.
  • Use of electronic resources.
  • Use of IT facilities and multi-media equipment.

Vistors who are not paying the subscription are not allowed to make photocopies for commercial purposes without payment under the CLA Sticker Scheme.

Exceptions to the Subscription Fee Requirements

Apart from current students and employees of the University the only exceptions to the subscription fee requirements are:

  • Consultants etc undertaking work on behalf of the University.
  • Honorary borrowers who have been approved as such by the Librarian or his delegated representative
  • Academic staff from other SCONUL members
  • Students from Institutions where there is a reciprocal arrangement
  • Governors of the University
