The library is open for members of the public to visit and use as a reference collection during the following hours only:
Access to the building outside of these times is restricted to University students and staff only.
If you are not a University student or member of staff, please bring valid photographic ID and we can issue you with a visitor's pass. Please note: only original forms of ID will be accepted, copies and photographs of ID cannot be used.
Further details can be found in our access policy.
The library at Solent University is a member of the SCONUL Access scheme.
Visiting SCONUL subscribers must have an approval email from SCONUL and a valid university ID card to apply for subscriber membership of the library.
Once you have a subscriber card (issued by us) you will be able to enter the library during visitor hours (as listed above) without the need to sign-in. Some subscribers may be eligible to borrow books (this depends on the SCONUL subscription approved by your home university).
Membership does not include access to the library's computers, photocopiers, wi-fi, study rooms or electronic resources.
Applications for subscriber membership (including reference access) can only be made online as you will need to upload a passport style photograph.
When your library card is ready to collect we will email you to let you know. This is usually within 5 working days during term-time (unless we have a query with your application).
To collect your card you must have a valid university ID card (from your university) and a copy of your SCONUL approval email. The details on these must match your online application.
If you wish to renew your library card or you need a replacement because it has been lost or damaged, you should also apply online (making sure you have your valid SCONUL approval email first).
Subscription Service for individualsMembers of the public may apply to use the Library as a borrower. Subscribers are offered a book loans service (up to four items at a time).
Please note: Visitors and subscribers do not have access to the library's computers, photocopiers, wi-fi, study rooms or electronic resources.
