Placement students

While you are out on placement you are still entitled to continue to use the Mountbatten Library. If you are in the local area you can visit and use the library in the normal way. If you are further away there are many services you still have access to:

Before you go on placement

  • Make sure you know your university username and password so that you can access the library's electronic resources.
  • Make sure you know how to check your university email account so we can contact you while you are out on placement.
  • Make sure you have returned/renewed any books on your card before you go so that you are not blocked from borrowing.
  • Know who your information librarian is - and how to contact them.
  • Arrange an appointment with them before you go so they can remind you how to use the library's eresources that you will need to access when on placement.
  • Learn how to use the inter-library loan request form so that you can have full text of articles from journals the library does not subscribe to but that you need.
  • Join Sconul Access (online form) and this will give you limited borrowing from other academic libraries (membership will last for the duration of your placement, up to 12 months).

While you are on placement

  • Make use of ebooks and ejournals - contact your information librarian for help if you are not sure how to do this.
  • Access databases (for academic purposes only).
  • If you do borrow from the library make sure you are able to return items if other students need them.
  • If you post items back to us you are responsible for them until we receive them.
  • You can still borrow books via inter-library loan, if you can come to the library to collect and return them.
