Distance learner support

The library service at Southampton Solent University will provide the following support for distance learners:

  • Assistance in developing effective methods of information retrieval.
  • Guidance for the use of electronic information resources such as databases and full-text electronic journals.
  • A library catalogue which can be accessed both on and off campus.
  • Increased access to the library and its resources with long opening hours (including evenings and weekends during term-time) and a user-friendly library web site.
  • Identification to enable distance learning students to use alternative libraries in person, including membership of the Sconul Access scheme.
  • Liaison through the distance learning and part-time student service.
  • Information librarians to provide advice and guidance on literature searching.
  • Provide, where possible, a student experience similar to that of on-campus students.
  • Library guides in print or electronic form detailing:
    • range of library facilities and services.
    • borrowing books and other learning materials.
    • guides to information resources.
