Assistive technology

Assistive technology centre

assistive6180x120This is a quiet room within the library where students, who have a blue card, can get access to additional resources and special software packages.

A wider range of software and assistance with using the equipment can be found in the new assistive technology centre in A013 (ext 3201).

Lucy Porcher, who is based in the main assistive technology centre (ATC) between 10am and 2pm Monday to Friday can also offer assistance with use of equipment in the library ATC to any students registered with Access Solent. Outside those times, anyone requiring assistance should contact the Access Solent help desk on 023 8031 9201.

Web accessibility problems?

Adobe ReaderMany of the library request forms require Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you do not have this software loaded on your machine, you can download a copy free from the Adobe website.

If you find it difficult to view PDF files you can use the online conversion tool for Adobe PDF documents: This tool will convert the document to HTML - an ordinary web page which is then accessible to text readers.

To use the tool, select the option 'Adobe PDF conversion by simple form'. Copy the URL (address) of the PDF document which appears in the web browser when it is selected and paste into the box for the above option.

Please note that conversion is not always accurate.
