Borrowing and returning library material

Borrowing items

To borrow items please use the self-service machines. There are sborrowingeven machines located in the library foyer and another on Floor 1A.

You will need to have a valid campus card (or a valid Mountbatten Library subscriber card for external users) and must be "in good standing" ie have no debts to the library or University and must not have seriously infringed the rules or regulations of the library.

If you require any assistance please speak to staff in the foyer area or based at the Mountbatten information point desk.

Campus cards

Lost campus cards must be reported to the library as soon as possible. This is important as it will prevent anyone else using your card (you would be responsible for the return or replacement of any items issued).

Replacement campus cards for students can be purchased online via the Solent online shop. The recipt and payment number must then be taken to the relevant school for collection of the card.

Library users are only permitted to have one library borrowing account. If you are a staff member and a student of the University, you should only use your staff campus card for borrowing purposes (this will allow you up to 25 loans).

Returning items

Please return your library items via the self-service machines, following the on screen instructions. Once returned, most items will need to be placed on the nearby white trollies.

The self-service machines will direct you to place any requested items (or items from our Warsash campus) into one of the red return boxes. These will be returned later by library staff when the boxes are emptied.

If in doubt, please ask staff for assistance.
