Osama Khan is the Director, Learning and Teaching and is the head of the University's Solent Learning and Teaching Instituite (SLTI).

Previous to this Osama was the associate dean (operations) of the School of Business and Law and the school management lead for:

  • Strategic overview of student numbers, courses and student experience.
  • Development of the course portfolio.
  • Student experience.
  • School operations.
  • Overview of student recruitment and retention.
  • Course marketing generally and overseas specifically.
  • Resources.

Before joining Southampton Solent University, Osama worked as the director of undergraduate studies for the Surrey Business School, the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management and Surrey International Institute in China within the University of Surrey. He was responsible for undergraduate learning and teaching, student experience, curriculum development and the internationalisation of undergraduate provision.

Osama's academic expertise lie within accounting and finance. He held a senior teaching fellow position at Surrey Business School, teaching units in financial accounting, business finance, corporate finance, derivative securities, financial markets, business economics, econometrics, mathematical economics, real estate finance and investment, financial management, entrepreneurship, and business planning. He taught large classes, some of which ran across multiple counties including China and Hong Kong as well as the UK. He started his academic career in Dhaka, Bangladesh and moved to the UK to complete his MPhil Real Estate Finance and Economics with the University of Cambridge, where he also undertook a teaching role.

Osama is a passionate teacher and has won multiple teaching awards. His current focus is in the area of technology enhanced learning and teaching and he has spoken at international conferences and academic leadership training on this topic. After completing the prestigious International Teachers Programme (ITP) at HEC Paris in 2012, he was invited to deliver a session on technology enhanced learning at the ITP 2013 programme at HEC, Paris.

Osama is a technology enthusiast and was involved in two institutional business change projects: the Office 365 migration and the customer relationship management project using MS Dynamics. Previously in his role at the University of Surrey, Osama actively managed the academic transition when the University transformed and standardised its academic offer with new sets of regulation, a new academic year structure and programme credit structure. Transformation management in higher education and transformation through technology management are two of Osama's strengths.

Although he started his career as a corporate banker at the Standard Chartered Bank in the Middle East and South Asian market, he transformed himself into a public servant through his eagerness to facilitate the learning process of future generations.
