Using your computers and devices

laptopLaptops and some handheld mobile devices can connect to the University network via the wireless and halls connection.

In all the learning resource centres and the library there are powered laptop areas.

Before using your laptop you will need to configure it for the wireless network and consider what antivirus and firewall software you have. The Learning Resource Centre team are available to help if you get stuck (please note: during busy periods staff will treat these requests as low priority).

You can also download the laptop and mobile devices support factsheet for a printable copy of this information.

SolentNet wireless network

Most wireless enabled devices can access the Portal and internet through the SolentNet wireless network, this is available throughout the city campus including the Learning Resource Centres and the Mountbatten Library. At Warsash Maritime Academy it is available in the Moyana Building, Mountbatten Library and the Drummond Building.

Via the Portal you will be able to access your network storage (U:), myCourse and printing facilities.

If you are using either the wireless network or the halls network you are strongly advised to ensure you have appropriate antivirus and firewall software, and update them regularly.

How to connect

For information on how to connect please refer to instructions and support files for the use of the wireless network.

If your device is not listed on these pages please ask for advice at any of the resource centres, but be aware that not all devices are currently supported.
