English Language - Research skills

The in-sessional English Language Support classes are designed specifically for international students at Solent University whose first language is not English.

The English Language Support workshops in this period will focus largely on the key features of academic writing, including the following: grammar in academic writing; academic vocabulary and style; recognising essay types and analysing structure; summarising and paraphrasing; using evidence from sources and avoiding plagiarism; referencing and using citations in your writing.

The English Language - Research skills workshop on Thursday 30 January will focus on identifying main and supporting ideas in academic sources; skimming and scanning in academic reading; identifying fact vs opinion.

There is a maximum class size of 20 for each session so you will need to book your place.

Each week the same workshop will be offered at three different times/days – you can choose the one that best fits your timetable. Please check the rooms carefully – they may change each week, depending on availability.
