Fairtrade university

Fairtrade producerSouthampton Solent University is proud to be a Fairtrade university and is committed to supporting fair trade. As part of our commitment to the Fairtrade Foundation we ensure that Fairtrade products are available for sale in our restaurants, campus shops, cafés and other outlets and strive to expand procurement of Fairtrade products, where possible.

In partnership with Solent Students’ Union the university produced a Fairtrade policy, reviewed on an annual basis, which highlights our promise to the Fairtrade Foundation to comply and adhere to set goals.

Fairtrade on campus

In September 2014 the University produced its first ever Fairtrade Campus Directory to help our staff and students understand more about Fairtrade and where they can buy Fairtrade products on campus.

Fairtrade steering group

To achieve our goals as a Fairtrade university a Solent steering group has been established, which includes university staff, Students' Union, partner contractors and members from the student body.

Fairtrade logoThe purpose of the steering group is to maintain university status by raising awareness of Fairtrade across both the Southampton and Warsash campus. The group considers proposals for supporting, or organising campaigns, to enhance the Fairtrade ethos, encourage the promotion and sale of Fairtrade products and increase Fairtrade consumption.

The steering group organise awareness activities throughout the academic year with particular emphasis on the annual Fairtrade Fortnight campaign at the end of February. If you are interested in getting involved or joining our Solent Fairtrade steering group please email fair.trade@solent.ac.uk
