What is the campus card and what is it used for?

Your campus card is a smart card with a microchip inside that can be used to identify you electronically for attendance purposes, for access and books issue in the library, for printing/photocopying, for registering activities with Solent Sport and it can be used as a charge card at the University's catering outlets. The card is therefore important to you as a student at the University and you should keep it with you at all times.  The card will have other uses in the future which the University will advertise as they are made available.

How do I get a campus card?

You will be issued with a campus card when you first enrol as a student with the University. This will be valid for the duration of your course. If you have any problems with it then you should go to the Student Hub in RM050.

What happens if I lose my card?

Students who have lost their cards may get a replacement card at a charge of £5. You will need to access the online store and then print out the receipt and take it to the Student Hub in RM050 where a new card will be isued.

If I lose my campus card, do I lose any money credited to it?

No. The money is held online against your account not on the card itself so if you lose your card and are issued with a new one, your balance will be unaffected.

Can I change my photograph?

Generally, the photograph used at the time your card was created will be the one used for the life of the card. If you wish to use a different photograph, you will have to pay for a replacement card to be produced at a cost of £5.

How do I change my details?

Only your name and faculty are relevant to the card. A new card will be generated when you report any change in your name to student.hub@solent.ac.uk. Faculty names have changed in the last year. Campus Cards will not be updated with the new schools names for continuing students.

Can I use the card in vending machines?

No. Vending machines will not recognise campus cards at present.

How do I add credit to my campus card for catering?

Follow the link to our catering pages to find out more.

Can the campus card be used to pay for things in the Students' Union?

No. The Students' Union facilities do not currently use the campus card.

Can I still use my campus card in shops to get student discounts?

Yes, the card still works outside of the University as evidence that you are eligible for student discount where advertised.
