Solent University Wireless Network - SolentNet
Access the wireless network from anywhere on campus
You can now access the wireless network from anywhere on the City Campus and specific buildings at the Warsash Maritime Academy providing your laptop, PDA or other mobile computing device is wireless enabled and supports WPA2/WPA.
Apple devices or devices running Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7 can be automatically configured by using our XpressConnect service.
If you want to configure your device manually then follow the links at the bottom of this page to get the instructions that will enable you to set up your device for the network. Alternatively you can go to any Learning Resource Centre on the City Campus and the Staff will be happy to help you get set up and connected.
If you are on the Warsash campus, go to the Warsash Learning Resource Centre above the Mountbatten Library for advice and help.
Through the wireless network you will be able to access myCourse, the Internet, your network file storage, printing, e-mail etc. It will be just as though you had logged in using one of the University's fixed computers.
Southampton Solent University's wireless network (previously called SolentSecure) has been upgraded and, to reflect these changes, it is now called SolentNet.
Staff connecting to SolentNet will get exactly the same connectivity as if they had plugged their computer on to the University's wired network. Students will get the same connectivity as computers connected to Southampton Solent University's student residences network (Resnet) although they won't be able to see Resnet computers or partake in the Resnet Internet games trial service. For security reasons, computers connected to SolentNet will not be directly contactable by other computers on SolentNet.
Instructions on how to connect to SolentNet are available as follows:
SolentNet configuration - Windows Vista and Windows 7
SolentNet configuration - Windows XP
SolentNet configuration - Apple Mac OS X (10.5 or higher recommended)
SolenNet configuration - Windows Mobile 6.0 device. Note - before attempting to connect to SolentNet please install the two certificates listed in the Certificates section shown below
SolentNet configuration - Apple iPod Touch (also applicable to iPhone/iPad)
For devices other than those listed above go to any Learning Resource Centre for help and advice. Staff would appreciate you making a specific appointment so that they can be sure to have time for you. Please be aware that not all devices will be able to connect to the SolentNet network. Please note, during busy periods, no support will be available for unlisted devices.
