Peer-to-Peer File Sharing (P2P)
Southampton Solent University does not allow the use of peer-to-peer filesharing (P2P) on its data networks.
P2P software has the abilily to enhance the spread of viruses & trojans causing problems for other users.
File sharing software also has the capability to use large amounts of bandwidth, again causing problems for other users.
Students who are found to have been using this type of technology to share copyrighted material are liable to have their internet connection suspended with immediate effect and may be subject to disciplinary and/or legal proceedings.
Students who are found to be tunnelling P2P filesharing to the Internet will also be subject to the same disciplinary and/or legal proceedings.
Sharing copyrighted material is illegal unless the appropriate license fee is paid to the copyright holder. If in doubt please don't do it!
