Solving and Reporting Problems
If things don't work, please check all your configuration settings. You may also use the PING command to verify your computer is connected - please refer to the troubleshooting page before you email us.
If you have a working connection to the Student Residences Network (Resnet) Service then it is quite likely that:
a) Due to technical or legal reasons, the University cannot allow students to access a particular website or service
b) the website is very busy and cannot respond to your computer.
If things don't work it is likely that the connection is still too slow. There isn't anything you can do about that - except encourage your neighbors to reduce congestion. It is in everyone's interests to use their connection responsibly. If you hog the network by trying to download gigabytes of files, it will crawl to a halt for you and your neighbors. If you and other people act responsibly and moderate their usage then when you need to use the network it should be available.
Please be aware that we cannot answer any questions regarding the applications you have installed on your computer. We can only help you with connecting and using Resnet.
Please remember that the University provides Resnet to encourage educational use. Although recreational and personal use are acceptable, academic use must have priority.
JANET
Southampton Solent University is connected to the Internet via JANET, the Joint Academic Network used by most UK Educational Establishments. JANET can be used for academic and research purposes only so this means that we can not offer the full range of services that you would expect from a commercial Internet Service Provider.
