The language centre is situated in SMX01, clearly signposted from the first floor of the Sir James Matthews building.

It is a cosy, warm and welcoming space for all students to socialise, study, relax or even have a quick nap on our bean bags.

Foreign language classes

Below are the list of foreign languages we currently teach:

We offer free English classes to all non-native English speakers:

ENG197 General English Advanced

This takes place throughout the year, for two hours a week. You'll be developing communication skills through discussion, vocabulary and grammar development.

There are four tests: listening and reading in P1, and speaking and writing in P2. This is an interactive and fun class for all round language skills.

ENG196 Business English Advanced

You can choose to complete this course in either P1 or P2, and will be studying for four hours a week. This course is designed to improve all areas of business correspondence and interactions with a focus on professional approaches and language development. There will be four tests: reading, writing, speaking and listening. An intensive and rewarding unit with a professional focus.

ENG199 Applied and Academic English

You can choose to complete this course in either P1 or P2, and will be studying for four hours a week. This is a focused unit that develops skills for study and successful assessment writing as well as looking at your career planning and development through designing CVs and online personal branding. There are two assessments - an online career portfolio and speaking test.
