Human BookReaders are invited to select their book from a range of titles just like any other library, with the distinction that these are human 'books' - people from communities that are regularly, in different ways and to varying extents; judged, discriminated against or misunderstood.
Over the space of 20-30 minutes, both book and reader are encouraged to share stories, ask questions and learn about one another.
The ultimate aim: to get to know the human being beneath the book title.
The first Solent Human Library was held on Tuesday 24 February in The Meon Suite, and featured 15 book titles including 'Witch', 'Paralympian', 'Ex Drug-User', 'Trans* Woman' and 'Anarchist' amongst many, many more.
The event was a great success with interest from staff and students campus-wide as well as visitors from other local universities and a few intruiged members of the local community popping in to browse the shelves.
