The Support Grant (previously the Access to Learning Fund), is a non-repayable grant for students who are in financial hardship. The Support Grant opens on 9 October 2017.

Unfortunately the grant cannot help pay towards tuition fees or those who have just mismanaged their finances. We can offer money management advice on this.
For students who have only been able to take out the non-means tested part of the maintenance loan, due to a high household income, they cannot be fully compensated for the lack of parental contribution by the fund, but are encouraged to still apply.
Students enrolled on a course for 2017/18 at Southampton Solent University and are:
* EU and International Access FundIf you are experiencing a short term financial emergency which is unforeseen and beyond your control then you should come and see the funding team in the first instance. You will need to demonstrate that you had initially made adequate financial arrangements to support yourself throughout your studies, including paying your tuition fees and that your current situation is temporary. The funding adviser may then give you an application form.

Students who compulsory course costs (not general costs such as books, stationary etc), may be able to apply to the course costs support grant.
This grant is available to support students who have been offered an unpaid placement, between 10 and 20 working days, who due to their poor financial circumstances, may be prevented from doing so.
An emergency loan is repayable, and interest free. It may be given to assist with basic living costs, before you receive your Maintenance Loan and if you are experiencing a genuine unforeseen emergency i.e. delay of student funding. Once you have received your Maintenance Loan we would recommend you apply to the Support Grant as above if you are in financial difficulty.

To apply for a short term loan, you must complete the application form and see a Student Funding Adviser with it completed including all the evidence as requested on the form. Loans are discretionary and not given on demand.
