Congratulations to Aldous who received a £75 voucher for winning the Student Oral Presentation Competition at this year's Research and Innovation Conference.
Zakirul presented the MAXCMAS paper on ‘Autonomous COLREGs Compliant Ship Navigation, Using Bridge Simulators and an Unmanned Vessel’ (page 280 - 287) in the COMPIT 2016. Read the paper.
Warsash Maritime Academy was on the national news at lunchtime on BBC News at One on Thursday 17 March 2016.
The MAIB report had been published on the Hoegh Osaka, the ship that grounded in the Solent last year. Steve Window, Programme Group Leader at WMA was interviewed about some of the findings of the report. The press had been working on this report with a local BBC correspondent for the past couple of weeks and the interview was filmed in the bridge simulator at Warsash.
Congratulations go to Professor Mike Barnett and the Project HORZION team. Project HORIZON, the EU funded research into seafarer fatigue has been selected as the winner for this year's TRA2016 competition for WATERBORNE. Mike will be travelling to the TRA 2016 conference Warsaw, Poland on 20 April 2016 to collect the prize on behalf of the project partners Bureau Veritas, France; Chalmers University, Sweden; and, the Stress Research Institute, Stockholm.
We would like to congratulate Pengfei Zhang for his successful defence of his PhD thesis entitled “Seafarers’ rights in China: Restructuring in legislation and in practice under the impact of MLC 2006”. Pengfei attended his viva on 12 November 2015 and the final revision of his thesis was approved 8 January 2016. We look forward to having a future seminar devoted to the Maritime Labour Convention where we will invite Pengfei to speak.
The main objectives of this conference are to widely conduct researches on the key theoretical, cutting-edge and crucial issues of maritime education that needs to be addressed, to support the training of navigation professionals to promote the quality of maritime education, as well as to improve the quality of nautical personnel and support the healthy development of the shipping industry of the world.
