What works on your mobile?

Our portal pages are optimised to work well on whatever device you are using, however you may find it easier to use a larger device to access some of our resources and services.

The following can easily be done on a smartphone:

  • Library chat - great for a quick query!
  • Twitter - keep up-to-date with latest library information.
  • Catalogue - for basic functions only such as checking printed books and locations (switch to a larger device for full functionality including ebooks).
  • Opening hours - check when you can use our facilities.
  • eResources - some have dedicated mobile apps offering greater functionality.
  • Contact details.
  • QR codes - find these around the library on factsheets and posters to link to information.
  • Taking photos of screens to show us where you are getting stuck.

What works better on a larger device?

Switch to a larger device and you can easily:

  • Use the library catalogue - for viewing ebooks, restricting searches.
  • Access eresources - for all eresources and full functionality, a larger device is easier.
  • Book drop-in training sessions.
  • Book group study rooms and individual carrels.
  • Access our subject guides.
  • Read ebooks and journal articles.

Should I think about my password?

Use a strong passcode/password on your phone/device - you don't want other people to be able to access your University email account!

Make sure you login/out of the library portal to ensure your details are safe.

How else are you using your mobile with library resources?

Why not tweet us your ideas and comments...?

Please note that this information is given as guidance only; the library cannot be held responsible if any of our services fail to work with your device. If you are planning to buy a device  to access library eresources you may want to ask for an in-store demonstration. You do not need to purchase anything additional as all of our eresources can be used on a PC, Mac or laptop.
