Inter-library loans

Books

If there's a book or journal article you really need but which is not available in our collections, we can try to get it for you from another library.

Who can use the service?

The inter-library loans (ILLs) service is available FREE for all academic staff, postgraduates, research students and final year undergraduates.

How many requests can I have?

Final year students and those in their second year preparing for dissertations can submit up to 15 inter-library loan requests per year; Masters students 30 per year. There is no limit to the number of requests for PhD students and academic staff.

What about first year students?

First year students should be able to access all the resources they need in our own collections. If you are a first year student and you can't find the information you need for an assignment, please contact your information librarian

First time user?

If you have not used the inter-library loans service before, please read our step-by-step guide

How long will my request take?

  • Journal articles - most are available within 2-3 working days
  • Books - it depends on how quickly we can track down a copy and whether or not the book is already on loan to someone else. We'll let you know as soon as it arrives

We will let you know if there are any delays on your requests.

How long can I borrow ILL books for?

When you collect the book from us we will let you know how long you can keep it.

Can I renew books borrowed from another library?

If you need to keep an ILL book beyond the initial loan period you must contact us to request this.
