Reservations

If all the copies of a book, DVD or video you require are on loan to other reservbooklibrary users you can sign in to the library catalogue to place a reservation.

A reservation prevents items from being renewed each week until a copy is returned to the library. That item is then put aside for you to collect.

Placing a reservation

You need to be signed in to the library catalogue using your university username and password.

Search for the book, DVD or video and click on the 'locations' link to check there are no copies available (if there are copies showing as 'on shelf' at either Warsash or Mountbatten you cannot place a hold request).

Click on reserve and choose where to collect your item (Warsash or Mountbatten). Click on hold and a message will appear to let you know if your reservation was successful.

We notify you when your reserved item becomes available (via university email/webmail). You can also check your account online. Click on my account (while signed in) and then requests. The status of your reservation will change from 'in process' to 'on hold' once the book is available for collection.

Reservation not available?

If you are having problems reserving a book it could be due to one of the following reasons:

  • A copy of the book is showing as available on the catalogue - books can only be reserved if all copies are on loan (even if you cannot find the book on the shelf). If you need any assistance finding library material please ask a member of staff. A book collection service is available for part-time students.
  • A copy of the item is on loan to you - if you return a reserved item there is usually a slight delay before the item is removed from your record. If you need to reserve it immediately a member of library staff will be happy to assist you.
  • The library only has a reference or a one day loan copy of the item - these are for reference or short loans.

Warsash Library

If an item you wish to borrow is only available at Warsash Library you can ask for it to be sent to Mountbatten Library for you to collect. Warsash items (excluding reference copies) can be requested in person at the Library's helpdesk or by emailing your request to reservations-ml@solent.ac.uk (please remember to include your name and student number in the email).

You will receive an email when the item is ready to collect, this is usually about three or four working days after the request is made.

Students studying at Warsash can ask staff at Warsash Library for items from East Park Terrace.

Missing Items

If you are unable to find an item in the library please ask a member of staff for assistance. If we are unable to locate the item we may ask if you would like to leave your contact details so we can continue to search on your behalf. If we find the item we would then put it aside for you, if not we can reserve other copies for you or consider replacement.

Collecting your reservation

When your reserved item becomes available, you normally have seven days to collect it (the final collection date is included in the email we send you).

Reservations awaiting collection are located on shelves close to the Mountbatten information point. They are shelved in campus card number order and will need to be issued using the self-service machines.

If you no longer need the item, please email reservations-ml@solent.ac.uk to cancel or speak to a member of staff at the information point in the library foyer.
