Overdue library material

If an item you have borrowed from the library cannot be renewed, an email will be sent to your university account to let you know.  Items must be returned by the date stated in the email to stop them going overdue.

What happens when an item becomes overdue

An overdue notice will be sent by email and a block will be placed on your library account.

Having a block on your account prevents you from borrowing or renewing until the overdue item is returned (including study room keys, laptops and some media production equipment).

What should I do if I no longer have the item

Please take notice of any emails from the library. If you have lost an item (or think you may have left it in the library) you should let us know as soon as possible.

What happens next

If the item is not returned, further reminders are sent to you by email and your library account will continue to be blocked. A letter will also be sent to either your term-time or home address (departmental for staff) asking for the replacement cost.

If items have been overdue on your account for a long period of time, you may receive an invoice for their replacement cost from the University's Finance Service.

Please note: Failure to pay this invoice on time may result in additional charges being levied. Please refer to the debtor’s policy for further information.
