Out of Hours Service
Out of Hours IT and Library Support at Solent University
Students and staff can now get IT and library support from an out of hours help desk service.

What is this service?
This specialised service, provided in partnership with the University of Northumbia, will allow you to make a telephone enquiry when the usual enquiry desks are closed or outside of standard university opening hours :

Overnight from 17:00 – 8:00 the following morning
-
at weekends
-
during bank/public holidays and university closure days.
Staff will offer immediate assistance via the telephone helpline. They will log all enquiries against your staff or student username. Any enquiry that cannot be answered will be logged for university staff to pick up on the next working day.
What can I use the service for?
The following list is not exhaustive, but could include:

Directional enquiries such as where facilities are located

Library enquiries such as renewing books; eResource password enquiries and queries regarding Library opening hours etc

IT problems such as checking availability of systems;, using email on and off campus;, connecting to Halls network; wireless problems etc

Assistance with using standard software applications eg MS Office and Mac applications; sizing images; paginating documents etc

Help with using MyCourse

Online submission and Turnitin enquiries.
What will not be covered?

Your University Password. Staff will not have access to systems to reset or create new passwords. Please ensure that you have registered on the password self service system so that you can request a new password out of hours

Help with blocked accounts or print accounts – please contact the Learning Resource Centre Staff during the next working day

Specialist software enquiries – please contact the Learning Resource Centre staff during the next working day

Staff applications –please contact the appropriate service the next working day.
Getting help during university opening hours
Remember that the service operates out of hours and there are many other sources of help available during core hours:

The Library and LRC help desks operate into the evenings and at weekends during term time with restricted vacation opening.

The staff IT help desk service operates until 5pm Monday to Friday.
