Responsibilities

I am responsible for the teams in the Learning Resource Centres (LRCs) and also the Library Loans team. These teams offer face-to-face first line support to students and staff.

My role is the day to day running of these teams and to liaise with second line support, IT Procurement, Academic rooming and other facilities within the university making sure that resources are up-to-date and in line with requirements. My aim is to make the student and staff experience within these facilities as efficient and easy to use as possible.

Career Background

I qualified as a Technical Illustrator and Graphic Designer at Southampton Institute of HE and then I freelanced for companies such as Esso, Amerada Hess and SPS Technical. I then worked for BAE Systems for eight years producing graphics and illustrations for bids, proposals, presentations and road shows.

I joined Southampton Solent University in November 2002 working as an IT Support Officer. As part of this role I helped students with all kinds of problems (not always IT problems) and I found the job very demanding but nothing is more satisfying than seeing students pass their degrees and the elation they feel.

Interests

My interests are mainly focused on my young son, but when I have time I like to read, do cross stitch tapestries, go on country walks, swim, clay shooting and I am also studying a part time degree in Web Design and Internet Technology. Oh and not forgetting the odd rock/eighties band concerts.
