Food and drink policy

We want to provide a pleasant, welcoming learning environment in the library and learning resource centres (LRCs). To do so we need your support to achieve that.

A number of other academic libraries still ban food and drink. We do not want to do that here and believe it is fair and reasonable to allow some consumption of selected food and drink while you are working long hours in our study areas. However, we do ask for your support with keeping to the rules outlined below:

  • No hot, smelly greasy food including takeaways can be consumed in the libraries and LRCs
  • Drinks in covered containers only please and no alcohol. We ask that drinks are please kept away from computer areas to avoid damage to equipment
  • Cold snacks can be eaten in the library as long as they are not smelly and messy and likely to distract other users
  • Please always clear away any food packaging / drinks containers into the bins provided  – we do not have the resources to do this for you!
  • If you attempt to bring in hot food such as takeaways you will be turned away and not allowed to enter the library or LRCs

This policy is reviewed regularly so please help us by keeping to the rules outlined here so that we can continue to allow specified food and drink in the building.

Thank you for your co-operation.
