Helen CapstickI am the learning skills developer for the university, seeing students on a one-to-one basis in tutorials. I also work on the development of the online study skills website, succeed@solent, write a weekly blog and tweet regularly (@SucceedAtSolent).

Along with Carina Buckley, I support distance and flexible learners via email and the discussion forums in succeed@solent. I liaise with the schools and Access Solent to provide integrated support to any student who needs it.

Prior to Solent University, I have taught for many years in secondary schools and FE colleges within the UK. I have also taught in various international and state schools abroad including Canada, and Spain. I have an English degree and Masters in Medieval Studies from the University of Bristol, as well as various teaching qualifications including a PGCE and CELTA certificate.

One of the things I most enjoy about my job is meeting students from all over the world. I always look forward to my ‘virtual travel experience’: hearing about other cultures from the students who come into the office here.
