Dawn is a post doctorate research fellow at Solent University; her work focuses on motivating and coaching staff to take their interest in learning and teaching 'one step further' into wider reaching projects and publications. Dawn is currently co leading the development of a new Educational Doctorate at Solent and research and publication on real world learning.
Dawn's previous work as a nurse academic, and her studies for her professional doctorate (2009- 2015), were the spark for her interest in work based learning. Dawn has developed an expertise in this area through the design of an MA in HE module 'Applied learning in a professional setting' at the University of Surrey and as the editor for 'Enhancing employabiity in HE through work based learning' (Palgrave Macmillan, 2018).
Dawn is an external examiner for clinical education courses at the University of Essex and is an external consultant on the Health Education England Project STEPS (Strengthening Team-based Education in Practice – A STEP approach to enhancing the student experience). The work of STEP will be disseminated in 2019 through co editing the book 'Facilitating learning in practice: a research based approach to challenges and solutions' (Routledge) and this is hoped to have a positive impact on the changing nature of clinical education.
