Business, law and communications placements

This sector covers a wide range of occupations including: financial management, human resources (HR), business  information systems, retail and distribution, marketing, sales, management (operational, strategic and consultancy), events and the legal sector. Students studying communications are strongly encouraged to get work experience, almost all sectors will need graduates who can communicate clear messages. For a list of online sources of sector careers information and work opportunities visit the writing, media, communication and performance (music, film, TV) page in CareerBox (Solent Online Learning log-in required).

Many placements are advertised by the organisations. But don't limit yourself to advertised opportunities. You can also:

  • Make a speculative application to any of the listed companies or other employers you find.
  • Ask about the possibility of having a placement with them.
  • Tailor your CV and covering email/letter to the organisation.
  • Positively describe the skills, experience and knowledge you would bring to such a position.
