Volunteering - Make a Difference!

VolunteeringWhy Volunteer?

Volunteering provides you with a range of excellent opportunities for gaining valuable experience and making a difference. Volunteering is a great way of testing out a potential career, trying something new or challenging yourself.

Add to your CV

Volunteering will give you extra skills and experience to add to your CV and employers are always interested to read about what you have done other than your degree. If you require particular experience, volunteering may have just that opportunity. Essential employability skills can be learnt and developed within a practical work-based environment.

Volunteering is also about having fun, meeting new people and making the most of the opportunities at University.

Broad range of volunteering opportunities

We have a wide range of projects and the commitment levels are flexible. Whether it is one day a year, a month or a week you want to give – we have the opportunity for you. Check out Jobshop Online.

As a volunteer you have the opportunity to work with a wide range of people from different backgrounds.

You can speak to an Employment Adviser about volunteering by dropping into the Employability & Enterprise/Students 1st Centre Monday - Friday between 11am and 3pm, or email volunteering@solent.ac.uk telling us you are interested in volunteering, and giving us some idea of your skills and interests - your course or your hobbies are good starting points.

“I have learnt a lot of new skills from being a part of this organisation including time management, how to write letters and emails to different types of people, how to be confident with people whom you have never met and most of all how to be organised.”
Stephanie, Media, culture and production student volunteering at Gosport’s Radio Haslar

"Since volunteering as a Youth Worker in Thornhill, I have been offered a full-time job when I graduate. The work has been rewarding, varied and exciting. I have worked with 11–24 year olds, delivering the curriculum in a fun and interesting manner. The service has paid for me to complete over 60hrs of training, including an NVQ level 2 qualification.”
Jo , BA (Hons) Sports Studies with Business
