Mentoring +

Connecting Students & Employers

MentoringMentoring + is Solent's careers mentoring programme for students. You can gain the edge and increase your confidence with first hand contact with employers.

You meet with your mentor informally on a regular basis and gain from their experience and inside knowledge - from advice on applications and CVs or help developing your presentation skills, to helping you choose a career path.

The Mentoring + programme has a range of local employers ready to help you kick start your career.

The programme aims to enhance your employability skills, self esteem and future career and employment prospects.

How does the Mentoring + programme work?

Mentoring + works by matching students with volunteer mentors from the local community who are employed across a number of different industries and organisations. The mentors offer vital support and also run careers workshops to prepare you for entering the labour market.

What will I get?

If you are successful in your application you will get a one to one business mentor for at least six hours from November to May and you will be given invaluable careers guidance and training opportunities.

You will also be required to attend:

  • a Mentoring + training session in November
  • at least three Mentoring + employment workshops (Normally Wednesdays 1-2pm)
  • attendance at the Mentoring + celebration event in June.

How do I apply?

Download and complete the application form below and either return by email to mentoring@solent.ac.uk or drop it into the Employability & Enterprise/Students 1st Centre (RM050).

If you are successful in the application stage you will be asked to attend a short informal 'interview' at the end of October.
