CV and Career Building Unit (CPU113)
CV & Career Building is a year long, portfolio assessed, 20 credit Curriculum Plus unit.
It is designed to enable students to identify the kind of job or career that is right for them, and to develop the skills of self-analysis and presentation that will help them to be successful in the graduate labour market.
CV & Career Building gives students the opportunity to:
-
Identify and reflect upon the skills, aptitudes and interests they already have and will acquire through study at Solent and other life and work experiences.
-
Research career options and job opportunities in their chosen field.
-
Learn how to present themselves effectively to employers in the job application and selection process.
Using blended learning, the unit combines tutor-led workshops and one-to-one tutorials, with guided independent learning and research. The unit is supported by the University’s online employability resource ‘CareerBox’ and input from specialists from the careers team.
You will go through the processes involved in applying for a graduate job – from researching career opportunities within your field of interest, producing your own convincing CV in a winning format, presenting yourself in applications and undertaking a job interview.
At the end of the unit, students submit a portfolio which contains a Personal Skills Profile, CV and application, mock job interview feedback, a Reflective Statement, and selected supporting evidence.
