As an integral part of the University’s lifestyle, Sport Solent is committed to providing a quality service to students, while also supporting the needs of staff, alumni and the local community.
Our product and service range is carefully designed to maximise sporting opportunities and to underpin the student experience. We offer competitive and recreational sport, coach education and coaching opportunities, healthy lifestyle expertise and talented athlete support.
Our facilities include a nationally renowned watersports centre and award winning cricket and football venues and exciting development plans are in place to greatly enhance our sporting provision.

Gym facilities
On the main campus there is the Performance Fitness Centre, which is available to staff members at specific times during the day and a sports hall, which is available for hire.
The Performance Fitness Centre hosts some new and exciting fitness classes which are available to all members including staff, students and the public. There are fitness class timetables for three separate locations.
Sport Solent's main gym facilities are found at St Mary's Leisure Centre which has a separate fitness suite and weights room as well as a larger sports hall for hire. The gyms have all the necessary cardiovascular, resistance and free-weight equipment needed for you to get the workout you want.
Students receive a huge discount on membership prices with a year long gym only ticket available for £110 or £16 a month pay-as-you-go membership!

Team Solent
Southampton Solent University has over 30 student sports teams which compete as 'Team Solent' and finished 58th out of 145 Higher Education establishments in the BUCS league in 2010/11.
All members of the Solent Sports Development Team are also involved in liaising with teams to help get them up and running, offer advice and give support throughout the year.
Sport Solent also employs a number of professionals to coach and manage the clubs to ensure they are able to compete and develop to the highest standard.
In addition to the teams that compete in BUCS every year we also have a Wessex League Football team and a National League Division 2 Basketball team.

High Performance Academy
Sport Solent provide a service exclusively for elite athletes who are currently competing at national or international level, or at least have the ability to do so. Those selected to be on the programme will receive a range of benefits to the value of £2,500 per academic year, including physiotherapy and sports specific training.
Athletes will also benefit from the new Performance Fitness Centre which will be the main hub for their conditioning and sport specific training.

Watersports Centre
The Watersports Centre is located in a purpose-built building on the Warsash Campus, situated at the mouth of the River Hamble.
The Centre, which is RYA recognised , delivers practical courses in yachting, dinghy, keelboat sailing, and powerboating. In addition, it offers RYA theory courses in Navigation, First Aid, VHF Radio and Diesel Maintenance. We are not only open just to Solent University students but also to the general public, and operate all year round.
The Centre boasts a range of new equipment and is ideally suited to teaching everyone from beginners all the way through to Advanced or Instructor level.
