City campus opening times

Monday - Friday (standard hours)

Staff may access the University from 8am but are reminded of the need to take care when moving around the buildings, as cleaning takes place until 8.30amclock

The University closes for normal business at 9pm in order that the University can be locked safely and correctly.

Staff who wish to conduct late classes may do so, providing the school have notified the academic rooming office by 12 noon on the day before. The buildings will need to be evacuated by 9.30pm, as facilities assistants will be carrying out a final lock-up of all buildings and setting alarms.

Any variations to these times will be updated by External Relations and staff will be notified via the news section of the Portal. This is likely to occur on certain occasions when buildings may close early e.g. for emergencies, security reasons or during vacation periods.

Weekend opening (standard hours)

The University buildings on East Park Terrace Campus are unlocked at 9am at the weekend and are closed at 5pm. Buildings should be vacated by 4.30pm for the final setting of alarms. Access is primarily for student use of the sports centre, library, IT facilities, research centres and open days. Please note - Below Bar and Sir James Matthews buildings will remain closed at weekends unless required for a specific University event such as Open Days. Not all parts of the buildings will be unlocked, but emergency escape routes will be maintained.

Staff working within East Park Terrace buildings at the weekend should first report to and sign in at the reception desk on arrival, providing the location of where they are working and of their intended departure time. Any teaching or other mass activities should always be arranged through the academic rooming office so that the event will be published in the daily diary.

Late night IT opening

By prior arrangement with LIS, IT centres will be open for student use at appropriate times of the year. After 9pm there will be a controlled access and exit route to the IT suite.

Access to remaining parts of the buildings will not be available outside of the standard hours, including bank holidays.

Christmas closure

The buildings are not open for business between the time of closing on or prior to Christmas Eve and the first working day after New Year's Day.

Details will be published on the news section of the Portal.

Easter closure

The buildings are not open for business during the Easter bank holidays (Good Friday and Easter Monday).

Details will be published on the news section of the Portal.
