Green Impact

What is Green Impact?

Green Impact is Solent's way of encouraging and rewarding staff for reducing their environmental impact.

It is open to all members of staff - you can join an existing team or create a new one - and involves completing practical, easy to implement actions in an online workbook.

We try to ensure the scheme will appeal to all staff, even if limited time is available, and it is designed to be both flexible and fun.

Points are allocated for each workbook action and count towards a final score, resulting in a Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum award. Special awards are also available, currently including the Best Energy Saving Idea, Environmental Hero and Innovation awards.

The Annual Awards event, held in November, provides the opportunity to collect your award and meet the other teams over an informal buffet lunch.

Green Impact is co-ordinated nationally by the National Union of Students and teams at Solent have participated every year since scheme began in 2009.

  • Green Impact provides the opportunity to have fun and help the environment
  • The workbook is specially designed to help you 'green' your department
  • You will obtain recognition for environmental actions already in place
  • Encourage colleagues to think about the environment
  • It's a way to meet staff working in different locations around the University
  • Help to reduce waste, save resources and money
  • Working together, we can all make a big difference.
